Hong Kong Triathlon Traffic Changes Nov 4-8: A Simple Guide

Hong Kong Triathlon Traffic Changes Nov 4-8: A Simple Guide

Picture this: It’s the morning of November 7, and you’re driving to an appointment in Central. You turn toward Expo Drive, only to find it closed. Your GPS starts recalculating, the cars around you are doing the same, and it’s not clear where to go next.

Updated November 3, 2026, based on the Hong Kong Police announcement issued that day. The Police say arrangements may change depending on traffic and crowd conditions. We’ll update this guide if the plan changes.

Hong Kong’s harbourfront is getting ready to host an international triathlon. For many road users, the challenge will be finding a smooth route around it.

The Hong Kong Police Force has announced special traffic arrangements in Central and Wan Chai for the 2026 World Triathlon Cup – Hong Kong, running November 4 to 8. The biggest road restrictions are expected on November 7 and 8. The Police are asking everyone to plan ahead and use public transport where possible.

Whether you’re an athlete heading to the venue, a spectator, a commuter, or a delivery driver, this guide turns the announcement into practical information. You’ll find what closes and when, how traffic will be diverted, where parking is suspended, and how to plan a trip without a car.

Travelling from Mexico or Latin America to race or cheer? Save this guide before you arrive. Central’s road network can be tricky to navigate, and knowing the details ahead of time can make your trip less stressful.

What’s Closing and When

There are two layers of restrictions. Expo Drive will stay closed for five days. A wider group of roads will also close during the early hours of the two main event days, reopening in the afternoon or evening.

Expo Drive: Five Days of Closure

Expo Drive, between Legislative Council Road and Expo Drive Central, will be closed from 10am on November 4 to 8pm on November 8. If this stretch is part of your usual route, plan an alternative from the first morning.

Event-Day Closures: November 7 and 8

The following roads will close from 1am to 2pm on November 7 and from 1am to 6pm on November 8:

Road / Section Type of closure
Yiu Sing Street Full closure
Lung Wo Road eastbound, between Man Yiu Street and Fleming Road Full closure
Lung Wo Road westbound, between Lung Tat Path and Man Yiu Street Full closure
Lung Tat Path (northbound) Full closure
Lung Hop Street Full closure
Legislative Council Road, between the Legislative Council Complex Car Park exit and Lung Wo Road Full closure
Central-Wan Chai Bypass Tunnel slip road (westbound, heading to Central) Part of traffic lanes
Central-Wan Chai Bypass Tunnel slip road (westbound, leading to Lung Wo Road exit) Slip road closed
Man Po Street eastbound, near Finance Street Part of traffic lanes
Man Yiu Street southbound, between Man Kwong Street and Yiu Sing Street westbound Part of traffic lanes
Man Yiu Street southbound, near Lung Wo Road Part of traffic lanes
Convention Avenue westbound, near Fleming Road northbound Part of traffic lanes
Cotton Tree Drive northbound, between Lambeth Walk and Harcourt Road westbound Part of traffic lanes

In brief: If your route crosses the Lung Wo Road corridor between about 1am and mid-afternoon—or early evening on November 8—expect traffic diversions.

How to Follow the Diversions

The official diversion details include many street names, so it can be hard to find the route that applies to you. We’ve grouped the main movements by starting point to make planning easier.

Expo Drive Eastbound

These diversions apply from 10am on November 4 to 12:59am on November 7, from 2:01pm on November 7 to 12:59am on November 8, and from 6:01pm to 8pm on November 8.

  • To the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre: Take Lung Wo Road eastbound, then Expo Drive East northbound.
  • To the Central-Wan Chai Bypass Tunnel: Take Lung Wo Road eastbound, Expo Drive East northbound, then Expo Drive westbound.

Heading East from Man Po, Man Kwong, Man Cheung or Yiu Sing Streets

If you’re trying to reach Lung Wo Road eastbound from one of these streets, use the same longer diversion. It applies during the event-day closure periods: 1am to 2pm on November 7 and 1am to 6pm on November 8.

Man Yiu Street southbound → Connaught Place → Connaught Road Central eastbound → Harcourt Road eastbound → Gloucester Road eastbound → Fleming Road northbound

There’s a different route if you’re on Man Po Street eastbound and heading to Admiralty or Mid-Levels. Take the Man Po Street slip road to Finance Street westbound, then use the temporary exit connecting Finance Street and the Central-Wan Chai Bypass Tunnel. Continue along the tunnel slip road to Man Kat Street eastbound, then take Connaught Road Central eastbound and Harcourt Road eastbound.

Legislative Council Road, Tim Wa Avenue and Points West

If you’re travelling northbound on Legislative Council Road or Tim Wa Avenue, you can’t turn left onto Lung Wo Road westbound. Instead, head to Lung Wui Road and Fenwick Pier Street, then take the flyover to Harcourt Road westbound. Continue along Connaught Road Central westbound and Connaught Place northbound.

The same westbound loop applies to these movements:

  • Fenwick Pier Street westbound (no right turn onto Lung Hop Street northbound)
  • Convention Avenue westbound heading to Lung Wo Road westbound via Lung Tat Path
  • Hung Hing Road westbound heading to Lung Wo Road westbound
  • Expo Drive East southbound heading to Lung Wo Road westbound

Cotton Tree Drive Northbound

You won’t be able to enter Tim Wa Avenue northbound. The diversion takes you along Harcourt Road eastbound, Tim Mei Avenue northbound, and around the Fenwick Pier Street roundabout before returning via the flyover. Allow extra time if this is your usual route.

Turn Restrictions to Watch For

These are the turns to keep in mind, especially if you’re used to driving this area on autopilot:

  • No left turn from Man Yiu Street southbound onto Lung Wo Road eastbound or Yiu Sing Street eastbound
  • No left turn from Legislative Council Road northbound onto Lung Wo Road westbound
  • No left turn from Tim Wa Avenue northbound onto Lung Wo Road westbound
  • No left turn from Lung Wui Road eastbound onto Lung Hop Street northbound
  • No right turn from Fenwick Pier Street westbound onto Lung Hop Street northbound

The main idea: Eastbound traffic will be directed out through Connaught Road Central and Harcourt Road, while westbound traffic will use the Fenwick Pier Street flyover.

Parking Suspensions and Towing Risks

If you’re driving in the area, check the parking restrictions before you leave. They start before the road closures.

Where Parking Is Suspended

Expo Drive: November 4 (10am) to November 8 (8pm)

  • All metered parking spaces
  • All pick-up/drop-off areas

Two overnight periods: 10pm on November 6 to 2pm on November 7, and 10pm on November 7 to 6am on November 8

  • All metered parking spaces on Yiu Sing Street and Lung Hop Street
  • All metered parking spaces on the unnamed road near the General Post Office
  • Lay-bys on Lung Wo Road westbound near City Hall and near Central Barracks

⚠️ Towing warning: Vehicles parked illegally in these areas may be towed away without prior warning and may also be ticketed. If your car is parked on one of these streets overnight, move it before the suspension starts.

Getting Around Without a Car

The Police have clear advice: members of the public are urged to plan journeys in advance and use public transport as far as possible.

That’s practical advice for this event, too. Expo Drive will be closed for five days, and several key connections will close on race mornings. Driving into the area could mean delays, detours, or a towing risk.

A few ways to make a car-free trip easier:

  • Use the MTR as your starting point. Central, Admiralty and Wan Chai stations serve the wider area. Plan the final part of your trip on foot.
  • Walk the last stretch. Road closures may make some areas quieter for pedestrians, but leave extra time for the walk.
  • Avoid taxi and ride-hail drop-offs on closed streets. Pick-up and drop-off areas on Expo Drive will be suspended, so choose a meeting point outside the closure area.

The Police announcement doesn’t cover bus route changes, shuttles, or park-and-ride options. Check the Transport Department and event organisers’ channels before travelling.

Tips for a Smoother Journey

You can’t change the traffic plan, but a little preparation can make your journey easier. Here’s what we’d do before heading to Central during these five days:

  1. Leave earlier than usual. Add extra time, especially on November 7 and 8.
  2. Check live traffic updates before you go. The Transport Department and Hong Kong Police channels are useful places to look for official updates.
  3. Follow instructions from officers on site. The Police say arrangements may change depending on traffic and crowd conditions. If an officer gives directions that differ from this guide, follow the officer.
  4. Be patient. The Police have asked members of the public to exercise patience and tolerance and to follow instructions from officers on site.

FAQ

Can I still drive through Central on those days?
Yes, but you won’t be able to use the closed roads, and driving may be restricted on event days. Expo Drive is closed throughout the period, and several links in the Lung Wo Road corridor close early on November 7 and 8. Follow the diversions above.
Where can I park if I need to visit Central?
The announcement lists suspended parking areas but doesn’t give alternatives. Avoid the affected areas and look for an off-street car park outside the closure zone—or consider travelling without a car.
Will buses be affected?
The Police announcement doesn’t say. Check with the Transport Department or your bus operator for route changes.
What happens if I park in a suspended zone?
Your vehicle may be towed away without prior warning and may be ticketed.
How long will the closures last each day?
The event-day closures run from 1am to 2pm on November 7 and from 1am to 6pm on November 8. Expo Drive remains closed from 10am on November 4 to 8pm on November 8.
Will the event affect businesses on Expo Drive or the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre?
The announcement says vehicles heading to the Convention and Exhibition Centre via Expo Drive will be diverted along Lung Wo Road eastbound and Expo Drive East northbound. Contact the venue directly if you have a specific visit planned.

The Bottom Line

Think back to the driver heading to Central on the morning of November 7. With a plan in place, they won’t have to reach a closed road and guess what to do next. Here are the essentials:

  • Expo Drive is closed from November 4 to 8, with the widest restrictions on November 7 and 8.
  • Diversions and turn restrictions apply at several junctions, so check your route before leaving.
  • Parking suspensions come with a towing risk and no prior warning.
  • Public transport is the most reliable option for getting into the area.

A major sporting event can bring energy and attention to a city, along with some temporary disruption. Clear information helps people adapt, and a little planning can make your trip easier.

Your next steps:

  1. Check the schedule and your route before you leave.
  2. Move any vehicle in a suspended parking area before the suspension begins.
  3. Add extra time to trips from November 4 to 8.
  4. Bookmark the official Hong Kong Police and Transport Department channels.
