🎯

Is this your race?

A 70.3 is a big first goal, and that's okay. Every finisher started as a beginner. The swim is planned in the sheltered harbour at Old Doha Port, which is a friendly setting. But the official bike and run routes, race-day weather guidance, the wetsuit rule and the cut-off times (the 'finish-by' deadlines for each leg) haven't been confirmed, so we're staying cautious until they are. Beginner fit 3/5: 70.3 baseline 3, ±0 harbour swim (wetsuit rule and water temperature unconfirmed), ±0 bike and run profile (official routes unreleased), ±0 weather and cut-offs (unverified).

✅ You’ll love it if…

  • You like the idea of a swim in a harbour rather than open sea.
  • You want a first 70.3 with a big-event atmosphere, fan zones and entertainment around Old Doha Port.
  • You're happy to travel and enjoy a new city as part of the adventure.
  • You're comfortable waiting for official route details and adjusting your plan as they arrive.

⏳ Build up first if…

  • You haven't yet swum 1.9 km without stopping. Pool sessions first, then open water, will help a lot.
  • You're worried about heat. Train at warm times of day and practise drinking and eating on the bike.
  • You want certainty about the bike and run courses before you commit. Wait for the official release.
  • You've never travelled with a bike. Allow extra time to plan packing and transport.

Not yet? That’s normal. Start here → take the 2-minute Readiness Assessment.

🗺️

The course, demystified

The race is based at Old Doha Port. The swim is planned in the harbour, and the bike and run are planned through Doha. The official bike and run routes, elevation profiles and aid-station details had not been released when we researched this, so treat everything below as a first look.

🏊 Swim · 1.9 km

Respira y flota (breathe and float) — the start is planned in the calm waters of Old Doha Port, a harbour venue. Harbours are usually friendlier than open sea for first-timers. Official water temperature and detailed swim conditions haven't been published, and we don't yet know whether wetsuits will be allowed. Check the athlete guide closer to race day.

Rookie trap: 'Calm' isn't a guarantee. Harbour water can still have some wind, a little current or changes in visibility. Practise sighting (lifting your eyes to find the buoy) and swimming in a small group, and you'll be fine.
🚴 Bike · 90 km

The bike is planned through Doha, but the official route and elevation profile weren't yet released, so we can't say how flat or hilly it will be. Cut-offs weren't verifiable either, so keep an eye on the athlete guide.

Rookie trap: Wind and route details can't be verified yet, so don't assume a perfectly flat or sheltered ride. Practise riding steadily into a breeze and you'll be well prepared.
🏃 Run · 21.1 km

The half-marathon run is planned through Doha with landmark and waterfront views. The official route, surface, elevation and aid-station details aren't released yet.

Rookie trap: Don't assume a flat course or cool conditions until the official guidance is out. Plan to walk through aid stations to drink if it's warm. That's a smart strategy, not a failure.

The real cost of this race

These are planning estimates only. The entry fee, flight, lodging and visa costs weren't verified for this race, so the ranges below are typical, hedged figures for an international 70.3 trip. Always check the official page and your own travel quotes.

Training time and days off workOpportunityseveral months of regular sessions plus a few days of leave
Planning estimate (cash costs only, excluding visa)—roughly $1,100–$2,850
Return on Race. The return on this race isn't on a spreadsheet. It's the moment you walk toward the water at Old Doha Port with other nervous, excited people, and the moment months later when you realise you did something you once thought was for 'other people'. You come home with a medal, yes, but more with the quiet knowledge that you can do hard things.
