Things I Learned From Triathlon that are not true
Most of the people we admire are ordinary. They are ordinary people like you and me, but this is an empowering realization, not a plot to undermine other people's accomplishments. Most of the time, their success is not due to some inherent advantage, but rather to a decision to build leverage to scale efficiently and a powerful combination of effort and luck.
Similarly, you can prepare better and train harder to reduce your failure window, but at the end of the day, "effort" and "luck" are also important factors in race results. Is there no flat tire? Is there no stomach ache? Have you forgotten to charge the derailleur front and back batteries? Is the hotel's air conditioning not working? Is the bed as hard as a rock? Sleeping problems? You begin to feel tired and decide to slow down, or did you truly give it your all? (only you know the truth) You then realize you were out by three seconds. Oh, no! Get the point.
That being said, good luck everyone! 🍀
Things I Learned From Triathlon that are not true
We'd have to get into the specifics of what it means to be fit, but a good analogy from real life is that "the smartest people always have the best answers." As you are probably aware, the most intelligent people do not have the best answers; however, they do ask the best questions.
Being in excellent shape does not guarantee a successful triathlon. (It really helps.) Instead, you should be asking great questions like a smart person does. Is the strategy I used appropriate for this race? Is my nutrition adequate for the distance and effort I intend to exert? Is my sleeping pattern efficient? There are many more questions worth asking that would help you increase your odds of success.
