Navy Women's Triathlon Team Gears Up for the Duquesne Collegiate Cup
This Saturday, the spirited Navy women's triathlon team is set to dive back into action at the Duquesne Collegiate Cup, hosted at the picturesque Brady's Run Park in Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania. The event promises to be a thrilling NCAA women's sprint draft-legal race, beginning bright and early at 7:30 a.m., featuring a 750m swim, a 20k bike ride, and a 5k run.
Fresh off a season opener that saw some standout performances, the team is buzzing with anticipation. Head Coach Billy Edwards shared his insights, noting, "We're coming off a race with significant individual results, and now we're stepping up to a higher level of competition. We'll be facing many of the same schools from last week's Patriots Triathlon, plus a few we competed against at nationals last season."
The upcoming race is expected to challenge the athletes right from the start, particularly in the water and the early stages of the bike segment. "With a larger and more tactical field, our midshipmen will really be tested," Edwards added. Yet, he remains confident in their abilities and potential to excel even further this week.
Highlighting Navy's Triathlon Talent
At the recent Patriots Triathlon, the Navy team showcased their prowess, securing second place among six teams with a total of 106 points. Freshmen Natalie Wang and Dylan Cashin made impressive debuts. Wang clinched first place, amassing 31 points with a total time of 1:10:03.6, marking the fastest times in both the swim and the run segments. Cashin wasn't far behind, finishing third and contributing 29 points to the team's tally.
Senior captain Emely Vela also had a career-best performance, finishing fifth and adding 27 points to the team's score. Her race included strong swim, bike, and run times, highlighting her all-around capabilities.
Looking Ahead
After the Duquesne Collegiate Cup, the Navy women's triathlon team will not rest on their laurels. They are scheduled to compete next at the Robious Landing Collegiate Cup in Midlothian, Virginia, on September 29th. This back-to-back competitive schedule underscores the team's commitment and endurance, promising exciting developments as the season progresses.
As the Navy women's triathlon team continues to push the boundaries of their abilities, they not only represent the Naval Academy with pride but also inspire a spirit of relentless pursuit of excellence. Stay tuned as these remarkable athletes swim, bike, and run their way through a challenging season, aiming for personal bests and collective triumphs.
