Thrilling Triathlons and Family Fun Extravaganza at Postwood Park

Experience the Thrill: Postwood Park's Triathlon and Family Fun Day

On a bright and energetic July 13th, Postwood Park in Hannawa Falls transformed into a hub of spirited activity, hosting its inaugural sprint triathlon. This event, part of a broader Wellness Day and Family Fun Day, drew participants and spectators alike into a celebration of health, community, and the sheer joy of competition.

The day kicked off with a splash as eighteen enthusiastic adults took on the sprint triathlon, challenging themselves with a 1/4 mile swim, an eight-mile bike ride, and a 1.5-mile run. Not to be outdone, the youth segment was equally thrilling, with twelve determined kids under ten years old navigating a 100-yard swim, a two-mile bike, and a one-mile run. The scene was vibrant, with each participant pushing their limits and the crowd cheering wildly, embodying the community spirit that makes events like these unforgettable.

Jack Goodrich, a young athlete from Winthrop, emerged as the star of the youth triathlon, completing his course in an impressive 19:51 minutes. Close on his heels were spirited competitors like Perry Houle and Calder Gonzalez, each showcasing determination and grit. The adult race saw Will Trithart from Potsdam clinching the men's title with a commendable time of 48:10 minutes, while Natasha Tulloch led the women with a stellar finish of 47:23 minutes.

But the triathlon was just one facet of the day's festivities. The park was alive with various activities ranging from yoga sessions that continued even as rain poured down, to vibrant music performances, face painting, and a plethora of games and crafts. These activities not only added layers of fun to the day but also highlighted the diverse interests and talents within the community.

The Clarkson University Physician Assistant students deserve a special mention for their volunteer efforts, providing essential health checks and ensuring the wellbeing of all attendees. Their presence was a testament to the community's commitment to health and wellness.

Organized by the Town of Potsdam Recreation Department and brilliantly captured by Michelle Garrow, the director of Postwood Park, the event was more than just a day of physical challenges; it was a celebration of community spirit, a testament to the power of coming together to support one another in pursuits of health and happiness.

As we reflect on the success of this event, it's clear that such gatherings do more than just encourage physical fitness. They weave the fabric of our community tighter, bringing together people of all ages to share in the joy of active living. Whether you were a participant, a volunteer, or a cheerleader on the sidelines, this day was a reminder of the strength and vibrancy of our community.

Let's carry this energy forward, embracing every opportunity to engage, support, and celebrate each other. Here's to many more days like this at Postwood Park, where every sprint, pedal, and step brings us closer as a community.
