Hello Slowtwitch, Meet Your New Senior Editor
Greetings, Slowtwitch community! I'm Kevin Mackinnon, and I'm absolutely thrilled to step into the role of Senior Editor here at Slowtwitch. Let me share a bit of my journey that has brought me to this exciting juncture.
It all started with a nostalgic trip down memory lane on a lively Forum thread a few years back, where someone mentioned remembering me racing as a pro. Yes, those were the days! My final professional race was back in July 1993 at the Sarnia Triathlon, where a torn plantar fascia marked the end of my racing days and the beginning of a new chapter. Fresh out of journalism school and newly minted as a father, I didn't realize then that I was setting the stage for my next career.
From announcing at races just weeks after my injury, to directing the Triathlon Pro Tour, to becoming the communications director for Ironman Canada and Ironman North America, my journey has been anything but dull. I even took on the role of managing editor at https://Ironman.com before helming Triathlon Magazine Canada as Editor in Chief.
After nearly two decades with the magazine, I've turned the page on that chapter and am excited to start this new one with Slowtwitch. I'm here to build upon the incredible work done by Eric Wynn, Ryan Heisler, and all the talented contributors that bring this platform to life each week. Expect more in-depth coverage, up-to-the-minute updates, insightful training tips, and thorough gear reviews. And yes, I'm also eager to dive into the Slowtwitch Podcast!
Triathlon and endurance sports aren't just my career; they're my passion. What drives me is the amazing community we have—a community that infuses meaning into every race, every article, and every interaction. I'm here to enhance our connection to the sports we love, including expanding our horizons to cover not just triathlon but also gravel, trail running, and more.
In the coming weeks, I'll be hitting the ground running—quite literally! I'll be bringing you stories from Ironman Western Australia, Clash Daytona, and the Ironman 70.3 World Championship in Taupo, New Zealand. From capturing the grit and determination of age-group champions to sharing the inspiring performances of pros like Laura Philipp and Patrick Lange, I'm here to bring these stories to life.
As they say, "there's no rest for the wicked," and in this case, I'm gladly embracing the "wicked" to bring you the best of endurance sports. Join me on this journey; it's going to be an exhilarating ride. Let's celebrate the achievements, the sweat, the tears, and the triumphs together. Here's to new beginnings at Slowtwitch—where every athlete's story is worth telling.
