The Carifta Games Championships kick off in Barbados today

Jamaica's Triathlon Team at Carifta Games Championships

Natasha Cameron, head coach of Jamaica’s triathlon team, is brimming with optimism as the Carifta Games Championships kick off in Barbados today.

With a mix of seasoned athletes and fresh talent, Cameron is confident that the team will not only compete but also excel in the triathlon, aquathlon, and mixed relay events.

Last year, the Jamaican team faced challenges in the triathlon but clinched gold in the aquathlon. This year, they're aiming higher.

"Our goal is to surpass last year's achievements, especially in the aquathlon where we see a strong opportunity to medal again," Cameron shared. She emphasized the team's growth in the sport, noting that while they are relatively new to the competition, their development is on track.

The team's composition is a blend of experience and youth, with athletes across three age categories: 11-12, 13-15, and 15-21. This diversity is seen as a strength, providing a dynamic mix that could lead to success across different events.

Cameron also pointed out the natural nerves that come with competition, seeing it as a positive sign of the athletes' commitment and passion for the sport.

"A bit of nervousness is normal and shows that they care deeply. Our job is to harness that energy positively," she explained.

As the events unfold, Cameron’s focus is clear: to support her team in translating their hard work into medals and personal bests.

"We are here to perform our best, learn, and hopefully come back with some hardware," she concluded with a smile, ready to cheer on her team from the sidelines.
