Lenoir-Rhyne University Women's Triathlon Team Aims for a Historic Three-Peat at Nationals
This weekend, the spirited and determined Women's Triathlon Team from Lenoir-Rhyne University, under the expert guidance of Head Coach Harley Mason, sets their sights on a remarkable achievement—a third consecutive national title. After their victorious performances in 2022 and 2023, the team is poised to compete in the nationals held in Clermont, Florida—a first for this location.
The team's lineup features seven robust athletes, with five competing in the "A" wave and two in the "B" wave. Leading the "A" wave is the reigning individual champion, Sabrina Fleig, alongside her talented teammates Zoila Sicilia, Eliska Rihova, Claudia Teran-Romagosa, and Maidi Quezada-O'Connor. Representing the "B" wave are the promising freshman Isis Gaskin and Alessandra Maso.
Originally scheduled for a single day at Lake Louisa State Park, the competition has been extended to two days due to damages from Hurricane Milton. The event will kick off with a lake swim at the Clermont Water Sports Complex on Friday, November 8, with the "A" wave at 10:45 AM followed by the "B" wave at 11:05 AM. The subsequent bike and run stages will occur on Saturday, November 9, at Lake Louisa State Park, with the "B" wave starting at 12 PM and the "A" wave at 2 PM.
Athletes will commence Saturday's segment based on their swim finish times from Friday. For instance, if the fastest swimmer in the "A" wave outpaces the second fastest by three seconds, they will start the bike stage three seconds ahead. The top-five athletes from each team will contribute to the overall score, regardless of their wave.
A special send-off for the Bears is scheduled for 8:45 a.m. on Wednesday in the parking lot outside Shuford Arena, where fans and supporters can gather to cheer on the team as they embark on this exciting challenge.
Join us in supporting the Lenoir-Rhyne Women's Triathlon Team as they strive to make history with a third consecutive national championship. Their journey is not just about winning; it's about setting new standards and inspiring everyone in the realm of college sports and beyond.
